Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Squid Web Proxy up to 2.x/3.x/4.8 (Firewall Software). This affects an unknown function of the component HTTP Digest Authentication Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in Squid 2.x, 3.x, and 4.x through 4.8. Due to incorrect data management, it is vulnerable to information disclosure when processing HTTP Digest Authentication. Nonce tokens contain the raw byte value of a pointer that sits within heap memory allocation. This information reduces ASLR protections and may aid attackers isolating memory areas to target for remote code execution attacks.
The weakness was presented 11/26/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared at squid-cache.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2019-18679. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
