A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Python up to 2.7.11 (Programming Language Software). This vulnerability affects the function CGIHandler of the component CGI Script Handler. The manipulation of the argument HTTP_PROXY as part of a HTTP Requests leads to a redirect vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. The CGIHandler class in Python before 2.7.12 does not protect against the HTTP_PROXY variable name clash in a CGI script, which could allow a remote attacker to redirect HTTP requests.
The bug was discovered 07/19/2016. The weakness was presented 11/27/2019. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-1000110 since 07/18/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
