Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel 2.6.32 (Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Marvell Wifi Chip Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A stack-based buffer overflow was found in the Linux kernel, version kernel-2.6.32, in Marvell WiFi chip driver. An attacker is able to cause a denial of service (system crash) or, possibly execute arbitrary code, when a STA works in IBSS mode (allows connecting stations together without the use of an AP) and connects to another STA.
The weakness was disclosed 11/29/2019 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.fedoraproject.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-14897 since 08/10/2019. Local access is required to approach this attack. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/05/2024).
