A vulnerability has been found in tcpdump and Ethereal (Packet Analyzer Software) (affected version not known) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component DNS Decoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. tcpdump, Ethereal, and other sniffer packages allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service via malformed DNS packets in which a jump offset refers to itself, which causes tcpdump to enter an infinite loop while decompressing the packet.
