A vulnerability was found in kde-workspace up to 4.10.4. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function crypt of the component Plasma Desktop. The bug was discovered 07/17/2013. The weakness was presented 12/10/2019 by Sander Lepik. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4133 since 06/12/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 8 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75103 (openSUSE Security Update : kdebase4-workspace (openSUSE-SU-2013:1291-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166381 (OpenSuSE Security Update for kdebase4-workspace (openSUSE-SU-2013:1291-1)).
Upgrading to version 4.10.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
