Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Siemens SiNVR 3 Central Control Server and SiNVR 3 Video Server (affected version not known). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component XML Data Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-23. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A vulnerability has been identified in SiNVR 3 Central Control Server (CCS) (all versions), SiNVR 3 Video Server (all versions). The SiNVR 3 Central Control Server (CCS) contains a directory traversal vulnerability in its XML-based communication protocol as provided by default on ports 5444/tcp and 5440/tcp. An authenticated remote attacker with network access to the CCS server could exploit this vulnerability to list arbitrary directories or read files outside of the CCS application context.
The weakness was disclosed 12/12/2019. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-18338 since 10/23/2019. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
