A vulnerability was found in Email Subscribers and Newsletters up to 4.2.2 on WordPress (WordPress Plugin). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function wp_ajax of the component Administrative Dashboard. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The WordPress plugin, Email Subscribers & Newsletters, before 4.2.3 had a privilege bypass flaw that allowed authenticated users (Subscriber or greater access) to send test emails from the administrative dashboard on behalf of an administrator. This occurs because the plugin registers a wp_ajax function to send_test_email.
The weakness was released 12/26/2019. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-19980 since 12/26/2019. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
Upgrading to version 4.2.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
