Details
A vulnerability was found in D-Link DCS-960L. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component HNAP Service. The manipulation as part of a SOAPAction Request Header leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of D-Link DCS-960L v1.07.102. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the HNAP service, which listens on TCP port 80 by default. When parsing the SOAPAction request header, the process does not properly validate the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the admin user. Was ZDI-CAN-8458.
The weakness was disclosed 01/07/2020. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-17146 since 10/04/2019. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
Upgrading to version 1.07.102 eliminates this vulnerability.Addressing this vulnerability is possible by firewalling tcp/80. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
