A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01/5.0 (Web Browser) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function ExecCommand of the component IFRAME Handler. Internet Explorer 5 allows remote attackers to read files via an ExecCommand method called on an IFRAME.
The issue has been introduced in 11/18/1997. The weakness was presented 10/01/1999 as MS99-042 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-1999-0877. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
