Details
A vulnerability was found in Opencast up to 7.5/8.0. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown functionality of the component Cookie Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded credentials vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-798. The product contains hard-coded credentials, such as a password or cryptographic key, which it uses for its own inbound authentication, outbound communication to external components, or encryption of internal data. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Opencast before 7.6 and 8.1 enables a remember-me cookie based on a hash created from the username, password, and an additional system key. This means that an attacker getting access to a remember-me token for one server can get access to all servers which allow log-in using the same credentials without ever needing the credentials. This problem is fixed in Opencast 7.6 and Opencast 8.1
The weakness was disclosed 01/30/2020 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2020-5222 since 01/02/2020.
