The networking software in Windows 95 and Windows 98 allows remote attackers to execute commands via a long file name string, aka the "File Access URL" vulnerability.

The issue has been introduced in 08/24/1995. The weakness was shared 11/12/1999 by Shadow as MS99-049 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2000-0330. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
