Details
A vulnerability was found in Samsung Galaxy S10 G973FXXS3ASJA/O(8.x)/P(9.0)/Q(10.0) (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Exynos Chipset. The manipulation as part of a Messages leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Samsung Galaxy S10 Firmware G973FXXS3ASJA, O(8.x), P(9.0), Q(10.0) devices with Exynos chipsets. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must answer a phone call. The specific flaw exists within the Call Control Setup messages. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length, stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the baseband processor. Was ZDI-CAN-9658.
The weakness was disclosed 02/22/2020. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-8860 since 02/11/2020. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
