A vulnerability was found in Allaire ColdFusion (the affected version unknown). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the file mainframeset.cfm of the component HTTP Client. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. HTTP Client application in ColdFusion allows remote attackers to bypass access restrictions for web pages on other ports by providing the target page to the mainframeset.cfm application, which requests the page from the server, making it look like the request is coming from the local host.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/1999 as P54-08 as confirmed advisory (Packetstorm). The advisory is shared at packetstorm.securify.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-1999-1124. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
By approaching the search of inurl:mainframeset.cfm it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 10047 (Allaire Macromedia ColdFusion "mainframeset.cfm" Vulnerability).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
