Details
A vulnerability was found in pulverizr up to 0.7.0. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality in the library lib/job.js. The manipulation of the argument filename as part of a Argument leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
pulverizr through 0.7.0 allows execution of arbitrary commands. Within "lib/job.js", the variable "filename" can be controlled by the attacker. This function uses the variable "filename" to construct the argument of the exec call without any sanitization. In order to successfully exploit this vulnerability, an attacker will need to create a new file with the same name as the attack command.
The weakness was shared 03/15/2020. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2020-7604 since 01/21/2020. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1055 for this issue.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
