linuxconf before 1.11.r11-rh3 on Red Hat Linux 5.1 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files and gain root access via a symlink attack.
The issue has been introduced in 05/22/1998. The weakness was released 12/31/1999 by Alex Mottram as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com.
