A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Windows NT 3.51/4.0 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component Clipboard Access. GINA in Windows NT 4.0 allows attackers with physical access to display a portion of the clipboard of the user who has locked the workstation by pasting (CTRL-V) the contents into the username prompt.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/1999 as not defined posting (NTBugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-1999-1452. The exploitation appears to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 2000 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch NT 4.0 SP5 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
