IRIX soundplayer program allows local users to gain privileges by including shell metacharacters in a .wav file, which is executed via the midikeys program.
The issue has been introduced in 03/01/1996. The weakness was shared 12/31/1999 by FIRST (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2000-0013. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally.
