Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Videolabs libmicrodns 0.1.0. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component mDNS Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

An exploitable denial-of-service vulnerability exists in the TXT record-parsing functionality of Videolabs libmicrodns 0.1.0. When parsing the RDATA section in a TXT record in mDNS messages, multiple integer overflows can be triggered, leading to a denial of service. An attacker can send an mDNS message to trigger this vulnerability.

The weakness was shared 03/24/2020. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-6073 since 01/07/2020. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 214737 (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS : libmicrodns vulnerabilities (USN-7239-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 0.1.2 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (214737). The entries VDB-152238, VDB-152237, VDB-152236 and VDB-152235 are related to this item. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
