A vulnerability was found in PHP up to 3.0.13 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function popen of the component Safe Mode. The manipulation as part of a Metacharacter leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. PHP3 with safe_mode enabled does not properly filter shell metacharacters from commands that are executed by popen, which could allow remote attackers to execute commands.
