A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint 97 (Word Processing Software). It has been declared as critical. Buffer overflow in the conversion utilities for Japanese, Korean and Chinese Word 5 documents allows an attacker to execute commands, aka the "Malformed Conversion Data" vulnerability.
The weakness was disclosed 01/20/2000 with Microsoft as MS00-002 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2000-0088. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
