Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenEXR up to 2.4.0. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function CompositeDeepScanLine::Data::handleDeepFrameBuffer/readSampleCountForLineBlock. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in OpenEXR before 2.4.1. Because of integer overflows in CompositeDeepScanLine::Data::handleDeepFrameBuffer and readSampleCountForLineBlock, an attacker can write to an out-of-bounds pointer.
The weakness was presented 04/14/2020. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2020-11759 since 04/14/2020. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
