Microsoft Excel 97 and 2000 does not warn the user when executing Excel Macro Language (XLM) macros in external text files, which could allow an attacker to execute a macro virus, aka the "XLM Text Macro" vulnerability.
The weakness was disclosed 04/30/2000 by Darryl Higa with Microsoft as MS00-022 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2000-0277. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
