Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Contiki and Contiki-NG (unknown version). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file os/net/ipv6/sicslowpan.c of the component 6LoWPAN Fragment Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Contiki-NG through 4.2 and Contiki through 3.0. A buffer overflow is present due to an integer underflow during 6LoWPAN fragment processing in the face of truncated fragments in os/net/ipv6/sicslowpan.c. This results in accesses of unmapped memory, crashing the application. An attacker can cause a denial-of-service via a crafted 6LoWPAN frame.
The weakness was released 04/23/2020 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-9183 since 02/26/2019. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
