A vulnerability was found in SaltStack Salt. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ClearFuncs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. An issue was discovered in SaltStack Salt before 2019.2.4 and 3000 before 3000.2. The salt-master process ClearFuncs class allows access to some methods that improperly sanitize paths. These methods allow arbitrary directory access to authenticated users.
The weakness was published 04/30/2020 (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2020-11652 since 04/08/2020. The attack can be launched remotely.
