Details
A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file epan/dissectors/packet-nfs.c of the component NFS Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Wireshark 3.2.0 to 3.2.3, 3.0.0 to 3.0.10, and 2.6.0 to 2.6.16, the NFS dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-nfs.c by preventing excessive recursion, such as for a cycle in the directory graph on a filesystem.
The weakness was disclosed 05/19/2020. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2020-13164 since 05/19/2020. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
