Details
A vulnerability was found in VIM (Word Processing Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component rvim. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In Vim before 8.1.0881, users can circumvent the rvim restricted mode and execute arbitrary OS commands via scripting interfaces (e.g., Python, Ruby, or Lua).
The weakness was shared 05/28/2020. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-20807 since 05/28/2020. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
