Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple watchOS up to 6.2.4 (Smartwatch Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Kernel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An integer overflow was addressed through improved input validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5, macOS Catalina 10.15.5, tvOS 13.4.5, watchOS 6.2.5. A malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
The weakness was shared 05/18/2020 by Tao Huang and Tielei Wang with Pangu Lab as HT211175 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-9852. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation.
