A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component IP Fragmentation Handler. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and Terminal Server systems allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by sending a large number of identical fragmented IP packets, aka jolt2 or the "IP Fragment Reassembly" vulnerability.
The issue has been introduced in 08/24/1995. The weakness was published 05/19/2000 by BindView with Microsoft as MS00-029 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2000-0305. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
