Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.6 (Operating System). Affected is the function prb_calc_retire_blk_tmo of the file net/packet/af_packet.c. The manipulation as part of a Packet leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel before 5.4.7. The prb_calc_retire_blk_tmo() function in net/packet/af_packet.c can result in a denial of service (CPU consumption and soft lockup) in a certain failure case involving TPACKET_V3, aka CID-b43d1f9f7067.
The weakness was presented 06/03/2020. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-20812 since 06/03/2020. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
