A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function SaveAs of the component VBA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. Microsoft Office 2000 (Excel and PowerPoint) and PowerPoint 97 are marked as safe for scripting, which allows remote attackers to force Internet Explorer or some email clients to save files to arbitrary locations via the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) SaveAs function, aka the "Office HTML Script" vulnerability.
The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was shared 06/27/2000 by Georgi Guninski (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2000-0597. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
