The weakness was disclosed 06/28/2005 by Noritoshi Demizu with BlueCoat (Website). The advisory is shared at bluecoat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-0356 since 02/11/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78204 (F5 Networks BIG-IP : Inadequate validation for TCP segments (SOL4743)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family F5 Networks Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90249 (Microsoft Windows TCP Reset Through Arbitrary Timer Value).
