Details
A vulnerability was found in WebKitGTK and WPE WebKit up to 2.28.2 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Bubblewrap Sandbox. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The bubblewrap sandbox of WebKitGTK and WPE WebKit, prior to 2.28.3, failed to properly block access to CLONE_NEWUSER and the TIOCSTI ioctl. CLONE_NEWUSER could potentially be used to confuse xdg-desktop-portal, which allows access outside the sandbox. TIOCSTI can be used to directly execute commands outside the sandbox by writing to the controlling terminal's input buffer, similar to CVE-2017-5226.
The weakness was published 07/14/2020 (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2020-13753 since 06/01/2020.
