A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Gert Doering mgetty 1.1.19/1.1.20/1.1.21. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file /var/spool/fax/outgoing/.last_run. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. The faxrunq and faxrunqd in the mgetty package allows local users to create or modify arbitrary files via a symlink attack which creates a symlink in from /var/spool/fax/outgoing/.last_run to the target file.
