A vulnerability was found in Larry Wall Perl 5.4.5/5.5/5.5.3/5.6 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the file /bin/mail. The manipulation of the argument interactive with the input value ~! leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. suidperl (aka sperl) does not properly cleanse the escape sequence "~!" before calling /bin/mail to send an error report, which allows local users to gain privileges by setting the "interactive" environmental variable and calling suidperl with a filename that contains the escape sequence.
