Details
A vulnerability has been found in openenclave and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a covert channel vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-514. A covert channel is a path that can be used to transfer information in a way not intended by the system's designers. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:
In openenclave before 0.10.0, enclaves that use x87 FPU operations are vulnerable to tampering by a malicious host application. By violating the Linux System V Application Binary Interface (ABI) for such operations, a host app can compromise the execution integrity of some x87 FPU operations in an enclave. Depending on the FPU control configuration of the enclave app and whether the operations are used in secret-dependent execution paths, this vulnerability may also be used to mount a side-channel attack on the enclave. This has been fixed in 0.10.0 and the current master branch. Users will need to recompile their applications against the patched libraries to be protected from this vulnerability.
The weakness was shared 07/15/2020 (GitHub Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2020-15107 since 06/25/2020. The exploitation appears to be difficult. Attacking locally is a requirement. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
