Apache Airflow up to 1.10.10 os command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Apache Airflow up to 1.10.10 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

An issue was found in Apache Airflow versions 1.10.10 and below. A remote code/command injection vulnerability was discovered in one of the example DAGs shipped with Airflow which would allow any authenticated user to run arbitrary commands as the user running airflow worker/scheduler (depending on the executor in use). If you already have examples disabled by setting load_examples=False in the config then you are not vulnerable.

The weakness was shared 07/17/2020 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-11978 since 04/21/2020. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.

The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as attacked. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. This issue was added on 01/18/2022 to the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog with a due date of 07/18/2022:
