A vulnerability was found in Kubernetes up to 1.15/1.16.12/1.17.8/1.18.6 (Virtualization Software). It has been declared as problematic. The Kubernetes kube-apiserver in versions v1.6-v1.15, and versions prior to v1.16.13, v1.17.9 and v1.18.7 are vulnerable to an unvalidated redirect on proxied upgrade requests that could allow an attacker to escalate privileges from a node compromise to a full cluster compromise.
The weakness was released 07/22/2020 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2020-8559 since 02/03/2020. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication.
