In OSIsoft PI System multiple products and versions, a local attacker can modify a search path and plant a binary to exploit the affected PI System software to take control of the local computer at Windows system privilege level, resulting in unauthorized information disclosure, deletion, or modification.
The weakness was presented 07/24/2020 (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.cisa.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2020-10610 since 03/16/2020. An attack has to be approached locally. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1574 for this issue.
