A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in rConfig 3.9.5. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file ajaxGetFileByPath.php. The manipulation of the argument path with the input value %2f..%2f leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
rConfig 3.9.5 could allow a remote authenticated attacker to traverse directories on the system. An attacker could send a crafted request to the ajaxGetFileByPath.php script containing hexadecimal encoded "dot dot" sequences (%2f..%2f) in the path parameter to view arbitrary files on the system.
The weakness was released 07/28/2020. This vulnerability was named CVE-2020-15712 since 07/14/2020. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
