Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in PassMark BurnInTest, OSForensics and PerformanceTest (affected version not known). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality in the library DirectIo32.sys of the component Kernel Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in PassMark BurnInTest through 9.1, OSForensics through 7.1, and PerformanceTest through 10. The kernel driver exposes IOCTL functionality that allows low-privilege users to map arbitrary physical memory into the address space of the calling process. This could lead to arbitrary Ring-0 code execution and escalation of privileges. This affects DirectIo32.sys and DirectIo64.sys.
The weakness was disclosed 08/07/2020. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-15480 since 07/01/2020. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
