A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple iTunes up to 12.10.7 on Windows (Multimedia Player Software). This issue affects some unknown processing of the component WebKit Web Inspector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. The weakness was released 07/30/2020 by Ophir Lojkine as HT211293 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2020-9862. Attacking locally is a requirement. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. A command injection issue existed in Web Inspector. This issue was addressed with improved escaping.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 241427 (RHEL 7 : webkitgtk4 (RHSA-2025:10364)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 12.10.8 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
