Details
A vulnerability was found in IBM Spectrum Scale up to 4.2.3.21/5.0.4.3 (Network Attached Storage Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Kernel. The manipulation as part of a Argument leads to a argument injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-88. The product constructs a string for a command to be executed by a separate component
in another control sphere, but it does not properly delimit the
intended arguments, options, or switches within that command string. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
IBM Spectrum Scale V5.0.0.0 through V5.0.4.3 and V4.2.0.0 through V4.2.3.21 could allow a local attacker to cause a denial of service crashing the kernel by sending a subset of ioctls on the device with invalid arguments. IBM X-Force ID: 181992.
The weakness was shared 08/31/2020 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-4492 since 12/30/2019. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
