A vulnerability was found in HP HP-UX 10.10/10.20/10.24/11.00/11.4 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component dtterm. Buffer overflow in dtterm in HP-UX 11.0 and HP Tru64 UNIX 4.0f through 5.1a allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a long -tn option.
The bug was discovered 11/01/2000. The weakness was disclosed 12/11/2000 by FIRST as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2000-1031. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
