A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Qbik Wingate 2.1/3.0/4.0.1/4.1 Beta A. Affected is an unknown part of the component Logfile Service. The manipulation as part of a GET Request leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the logfile service of Wingate 4.1 Beta A and earlier allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) attack via an HTTP GET request that uses encoded characters in the URL.
The weakness was presented 12/11/2000 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2000-1048. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
