Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Rapid7 Nexpose up to 6.6.39. This affects an unknown function of the component Installer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Rapid7 Nexpose installer versions prior to 6.6.40, the Nexpose installer calls an executable which can be placed in the appropriate directory by an attacker with access to the local machine. This would prevent the installer from distinguishing between a valid executable called during a Security Console installation and any arbitrary code executable using the same file name.
The weakness was presented 09/03/2020 (Website). The advisory is shared at help.rapid7.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2020-7381 since 01/21/2020.
