The getnameinfo function in FreeBSD 4.1.1 and earlier, and possibly other operating systems, allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via a long DNS hostname.

The bug was discovered 11/01/2000. The weakness was released 12/11/2000 by FIRST (Website). The advisory is available at ftp.FreeBSD.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2000-1066. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
