A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Indexing Service on IIS4/5 (the affected version is unknown). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component htw Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CiWebHitsFile component in Microsoft Indexing Services for Windows 2000 allows remote attackers to conduct a cross site scripting (CSS) attack via a CiRestriction parameter in a .htw request, aka the "Indexing Services Cross Site Scripting" vulnerability.
The weakness was presented 12/19/2000 by Georgi Guninski as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2000-0942. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
