Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenMediaVault up to 4.1.35/5.5.11. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function json_encode_safe of the file rpc.php. The manipulation of the argument sortfield as part of a POST Parameter leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
openmediavault before 4.1.36 and 5.x before 5.5.12 allows authenticated PHP code injection attacks, via the sortfield POST parameter of rpc.php, because json_encode_safe is not used in config/databasebackend.inc. Successful exploitation allows arbitrary command execution on the underlying operating system as root.
