Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Texas Imperial Software WFTPD 2.41 Rc14/3.0 (File Transfer Software). This affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in Winsock FTPd (WFTPD) 3.00 and 2.41 with the "Restrict to home directory" option enabled allows local users to escape the home directory via a "/../" string, a variation of the .. (dot dot) attack.
The weakness was disclosed 01/09/2001 by FIRST (Website). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2000-1101. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
