Variant of the "IIS Cross-Site Scripting" vulnerability as originally discussed in MS:MS00-060 (CVE-2000-0746) allows a malicious web site operator to embed scripts in a link to a trusted site, which are returned without quoting in an error message back to the client. The client then executes those scripts in the same context as the trusted site.

The weakness was published 01/09/2001 as MS00-060 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2000-1104. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 06/11/2024). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007. This vulnerability has a historic impact due to its background and reception.
